Motion Analysis of Both Ventricles Using Tagged-MRI in Paced Canine Hearts
نویسندگان
چکیده
Methods For this study, tagged MRI images (see Fig.1) were acquired from canine hearts while pacing with standard cardiac gated, breath-hold, cine SPGR, no echo sharing or interpolation, in a 1.5T cardiac scanner. (GE Medical Systems). Following myocardial and tag segmentation a four-dimensional B-spline based parametric motion field was computed for a volume of interest encompassing both ventricles. Using this motion field, 3D displacements, velocities and strains were calculated for the RV and LV. The circumferential strain (Ecc) is commonly used for the analysis of the LV. For the RV, we chose the Ecc direction tangential to the RV surface and parallel to the short axis imaging plane. The Ecc range [∆Ecc = (the end diastolic Ecc)-(the end systolic Ecc)] was calculated at 20 mid-wall locations over the RV and the spatial inhomogeneity of this parameter was evaluated using coefficient of variation (CV): CV = (standard deviation of ∆Ecc) / (mean ∆Ecc).

Analysis of the Activation Propagation on Both Ventricles Using Tagged Mri
MRI tagging created new opportunities for motion analysis within the body. With tagged cardiac MRI, detailed motion analysis has been previously shown; e.g. measurements of local strain of the heart could be obtained easily for normal and pathological hearts. In this study, we calculate the activation times using the local time-strain relationship and compute the propagation velocity of the act...
متن کاملTorsion of the left ventricle during pacing with MRI tagging.
The effects of different pacing protocols on left ventricular (LV) torsion were evaluated over the full cardiac cycle. A systolic and diastolic series of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans were combined and used to calculate the torsion of the LV in a canine model. The asynchronous activation resulting from ventricular pacing interferes with the temporal evolution of LV torsion. The torsion...
متن کاملIn vivo strain and stress estimation of the heart left and right ventricles from MRI images
Mechanical properties of the myocardium have been investigated intensively in the last four decades. Many complex strain energy functions have been used to estimate the stress-strain relationship of myocardium because the heart muscle is an inhomogeneous, anisotropic, and nearly incompressible material, which undergoes large deformations. These functions can be effective for fitting in vitro ex...
متن کاملQuantitative comparison of the force-interval relationships of the canine right and left ventricles.
We quantitatively compared the extrasystolic and postextrasystolic responses of the right ventricle and left ventricle of the same heart, which have vastly different geometries, architectures, and muscle masses. We studied nine isolated, supported canine hearts whose right and left ventricles were made to contract isovolumically with balloons placed in both chambers. The ventricles were paced w...
متن کاملApoptosis of ventricular and atrial myocytes from pacing-induced canine heart failure.
OBJECTIVE Rapid ventricular pacing in dogs results in a low output cardiomyopathic state similar to idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy in man. Cell death by apoptosis may play an important role in the loss of cardiac function. This study investigates the molecular pathways involved in the regulation of apoptosis in dogs with pacing-induced heart failure. METHODS Apoptosis was identified by ter...
